Whose History Are We Protecting?
The Dam Removal Debate in Massachusetts
As I began my research for this piece, I was surprised to learn that there are so many dams in Massachusetts—over 3000. For many of them, a failure would result in severe flooding and loss of life. And many of those are in a decrepit state. Moreover, dams are notorious impediments to migratory fish and a burden on natural ecosystems.
